The Fixer, 2013, 8 mn 24

The video titled The Fixer shows a script doctor, that person who is called in to improve a screenplay by at times getting rid of characters or scenes, and who talks about his or her work as if it were the work of a hired killer.  To this voice are added photographs of people who regularly attend the Barbican Performing Arts Centre in London.  These visitors at times become actors in scenes that have been done away with, at others victims of the killer.  c_f

The Storyteller, 2012, 12 mn

The Halqa or ring of spectators is practiced in Jamaa El Fna square in Marrakech.  The Hlaïqya, the artist who organizes the Halqa, is the vehicle of an ancestral Moroccan theatrical tradition. Abderahim Al Azalia is a special storyteller, interpreting Bollywood films in his own way.  For The Storyteller, he performs in the Royal Theatre in Marrakech, inside an unfinished opera, a concrete frame.  He transposes Sayten Bose’s Dosti, a black and white classic in the genre.  The loop comes full circle when Al Azalia tells us how Ramu and Mohan, the two leading characters in Dosti, escape from their condition, while they are playing music, and a circle forms around them.  KK

Suggestions, 2006-2013, 5 mn

The photofilm Suggestions is a visual script for depicting a romantic story happening in Tallinn environment in the beginning of the 21 century.  This script uses pairs of still images taken in most cases of one and the same place.  The real places that trigger the memory of the storyteller are made into images of events and structures that had once been there as a setting, part of the mise-en-scène, and have been lost, sometimes irretrievably by the moment of realising the script.  Suggestions borrows its title and soundtrack from a music piece of the same name by Estonian composer Eduard Oja (1905–1950).  His music contains expressionist atmosphere with imagery of suffering and struggle that is atypical in Estonian music.  LS

Still journey, 2013, 10 mn 16

In this work embarked upon in a residency in Vienna, I make a journey through time and space.  On it, I broach a host of references and contexts, somewhere between reality and fiction, with semantics playing a part and having a disorienting effect.  Based on the decadent novel Against the Grain [A rebours] written by Joris-Karl Huysmans (1884), Still Journey borrows one or two fragments of the original text associated with images questioning a potential exotic and tropical nature on the banks of the Danube.  The video gradually drifts towards an artificial vision when elements of reality seem to imitate fiction.  From the Flakturm architecture of Vienna to the description of hybrid plants, Still Journey deals with a representation of the monstrous things that man is capable of producing.  CI
